Gems, Projects, and Existing GPTs: Choose a Workspace

Choose a workspace by the task and access you can verify. Keep the instructions portable and test the actual output after setup or migration.
In this lesson
Choose a place to reuse the instructions from Lesson 3.1. Your result is a short decision record and one test, not a requirement to buy a plan or publish an assistant. A local text template is a complete fallback when a feature is unavailable.
Check What You Can Actually Use

For new practice, choose the local template or another available workspace. OpenAI is moving custom GPTs toward Plugins; account/workspace notices govern the applicable timeline and migration access. Do not purchase a plan to create a new personal GPT. Keep your brief portable, and retest any replacement before relying on it.

Worked Example
Fictional need: A learner wants an editor for weekly shop updates. It needs saved instructions, one small policy reference, and private use. Sharing and external apps are unnecessary.
Their test source is “Order packed; courier collection pending; delivery date unknown.” The task is a two-sentence customer update with no invented promise. Suppose their checks produce these illustrative observations:

The choice follows the requirement. Workspace A is convenient; the local brief still completes the task. These are illustrative observations, not claims about named products or your account.
A decision record might say: “Use Workspace A for private practice because it accepts the required reference and passed the unknown-date test. Keep the same brief locally. No sharing or connected apps are needed.”

Use your Lesson 3.1 brief, or this supplied version:
Edit customer updates into at most two plain-English sentences.
Use only the supplied notes. Keep pending actions pending.
Do not invent dates or promises.Select one available workspace or save the brief as a local template. Record the feature you can actually use; do not activate unrelated integrations.
Test with “Order packed; courier collection pending; delivery date unknown.”
Save the result and a two-sentence decision naming the reason for your choice and the fallback.
Check your work: The response must keep collection pending and delivery unknown. Your decision must identify an observed capability, such as saving instructions, rather than “this brand is best.” If you could only use the local template, record that plainly; it is a valid result.
An optional later exercise is testing sharing with a consenting recipient using harmless sample data. Sharing is not required here, and access to an assistant must not be assumed to grant access to its sources.
Keep Setup Separate From Permission
A working upload button does not mean you have permission to upload a client's file. Use the fictional notes for practice. Before real work, check the account's data controls, the client's permission, and who can see the source.
In Pakistan, include a required subscription in a client scope only after verifying that client's actual access and total cost. The owner should know who maintains the brief and sources.
