Building Your Personal Prompt Library

Lesson 13 of 15

Is lesson ke baad tum

Save a reusable prompt with its inputs, test case, expected properties, and version. Reuse the method while replacing and checking the facts.

In this lesson

Save one tested prompt so you can reuse it without carrying old facts into a new task. Your library can be a plain text document or notes file. Start with one useful entry; categories and extra entries can come later.

Save the Test Alongside the Prompt

A prompt is easier to reuse when its entry explains the task, required inputs, acceptance checks, and last tested setup. “Best model” is too broad unless you keep the dated comparison that supports it.

Use this structure:

prompt to try9 lines
Name:
Purpose:
Version and last tested date:
Tool/mode tested, or manual review:
Inputs required:
Prompt:
Sample input:
Expected output properties:
Known limitations:

Keep private client facts outside a general-purpose template. Use placeholders such as [APPROVED NOTES] and fill them for each job. A template that still says an old customer's name is not ready to reuse.

Worked Example

This fictional entry reuses Lesson 1.3:

prompt to try11 lines
Name: Customer update from approved notes
Purpose: Explain current order status without adding promises
Version: 1
Test record: Manual sample review; date recorded when you perform it
Inputs required: Approved status notes
Prompt: Write two plain-English sentences under 50 words from
[APPROVED NOTES]. Keep pending actions pending. Add no unsupported
dates, prices, or delivery promises.
Sample input: Order packed; courier collection pending; date unknown.
Expected: Packing confirmed, collection pending, no arrival promise.
Known limitation: The notes may be incomplete or outdated; check first.

An acceptable sample output is: “Your order is packed and awaiting courier collection. A delivery date has not yet been confirmed.”

Notice that the sample input stays labelled as a test. It is not silently inserted into the next customer's update.

Hands-On Exercise

Create your own entry from a prompt you tested earlier, or copy the entry above. Replace the sample input with:

prompt to try2 lines
Customer requested brown instead of black.
Warehouse confirmation is pending.

Fill the template, produce an answer, and check whether it preserves the pending colour change. Save the output properties, not just “worked well.”

Check your work: The answer should acknowledge the request without saying brown is in stock or the change is complete. If the output still discusses a courier, old example facts leaked into the new task. Separate example material from current input and rerun.

A version note can be short: “v2: explicitly label the current notes so the sample order is not reused.” Retest after the change and keep the failed example as a useful check.

Choose Entries You Will Use

Save prompts for recurring tasks or for a tested technique you expect to need again. A one-off question can stay in your chat history. Name entries by task, such as “Weekly project update,” so searching does not depend on remembering a client or date.

Keep the current version in one approved location. Save a copy that is available during a connection outage if your data policy permits it. Recheck the input and acceptance criteria when the task or product changes; a past passing test is useful evidence, not a permanent guarantee.

Optional extension: Add a second entry for a different task and a third for a draft-and-review pair. A larger library is useful only if the entries remain findable and maintained.

Common Mistakes

  • Saving only the prompt

Add a sample input and expected properties so you can test it again.

  • Leaving live facts in placeholders

Review names, amounts, dates, and pending actions before every use.

  • Calling one tool permanently best

Record the actual tested setup and date.

Your saved customer-update prompt is tested with a brown-versus-black colour request, but its answer still talks about courier collection. What is the most direct repair?
