Chaining Models: Draft in One, Refine in Another

A useful chain carries evidence between stages and checks the final output against that evidence. Another model is an optional review tool, not a guarantee of correctness.
In this lesson
Practise handing a draft to a separate review pass without losing its source facts. You can use two available assistants, two chats in one assistant, or the supplied draft and a manual edit. Two paid subscriptions are not required.
A Second Pass Needs the Original Evidence
A chain splits work into stages. Here the stages are draft, refine, and verify. A different model may find a missed issue, but it can also introduce a new one. Two models agreeing is not independent proof when both rely on the same unsupported draft.
Carry the original source, goal, constraints, and specific problem into the review. Passing only “make this better” leaves the reviewer to guess what counts as better.
Worked Example
Fictional source: A Lahore shop offers delivery in Gulberg and Model Town. Delivery fee is PKR 200. The order cutoff is 4 pm. No arrival-time guarantee has been supplied.
Draft:
Lahore-wide free delivery is here! Order before 4 pm for guaranteed same-day arrival.
A useful handoff is:
Task: Repair this delivery announcement.
Source: Delivery is offered in Gulberg and Model Town, Lahore.
Fee: PKR 200. Order cutoff: 4 pm. Arrival time is not specified.
Draft: [paste the draft above]
Problems: The draft invents Lahore-wide coverage, free delivery,
and guaranteed same-day arrival.
Output: One caption under 40 words, using only the source.An acceptable illustrative result is:
Delivery is available in Gulberg and Model Town, Lahore, for PKR 200. Place your order before the 4 pm cutoff.
The reviewer removed three unsupported promises while retaining the useful cutoff. It did not need to make the caption more dramatic.
Do This Now
Use the same source and inspect this supposed refinement:
Delivery to Gulberg and Model Town costs PKR 200. Order before 4 pm and receive your parcel within two hours.
Write a complete handoff explaining the remaining issue, then produce a corrected caption. Save the source, handoff, and final answer together.
Check your work: “Within two hours” is still an unsupported arrival promise. A passing caption names the two areas, the PKR 200 fee, and the 4 pm cutoff without adding a delivery duration. The worked example is one valid answer; your wording may differ.
If using live tools, count the factual corrections you made in each stage. Note the total review time. If manual repair is quicker and just as accurate, that is a valid reason to use one pass for this task.
Decide Whether the Extra Stage Helps
Use another pass when its observed benefit justifies the extra setup and review. A separate reviewer can be useful for a substantial document; a one-sentence update may be faster to edit directly.
Keep account permissions in mind. Client approval to use one service does not automatically cover a second service. Use fictional or approved data for comparisons and retain a local copy of the brief if connectivity interrupts the handoff.
Optional extension: Ask one assistant to both draft and review the same announcement, then compare with your separate-pass result. Keep the source and checks fixed. This tests your workflow, not a permanent difference between brands.
