Tailor Your Resume Without Changing the Facts

Lesson 6 of 15

Is lesson ke baad tum

Tailor by selecting and reordering verified evidence. Keep gaps, ownership, and project labels truthful, and track which version belongs to each vacancy.

In this lesson

Create two short resume excerpts from one evidence list. Tailoring changes emphasis for a vacancy; it does not change your history. Use the supplied fictional master and job excerpts so you can practise without preparing a full resume first.

Keep a Stable Source

A master resume is the maintained record from which you select relevant material. Give reusable items short evidence IDs so proposed changes can be traced back.

FICTIONAL MASTER EVIDENCE
EXP-01: Completed a 12-week university marketing internship.
BUL-04: Maintained a weekly spreadsheet calendar for three social channels.
BUL-05: Drafted English captions from approved product notes for supervisor review.
PRJ-03: Created a sample campaign plan and six Canva mock-ups as coursework.
SKL-07: Used Google Sheets filters, sorting, and basic formulas in that work.

Save a separate copy for each application. A filename such as 2026-10-05_SampleA_ContentCoordinator_A01_v1.pdf is easier to match with a vacancy than resume-final-new.pdf. Keep the original unchanged and check the actual attachment before sending.

Worked Example

Fictional Job A — Content Coordinator: Calendar maintenance, English copy, and spreadsheets required; WordPress preferred.

Fictional Job B — Junior Campaign Assistant: Campaign planning and visual briefing required; two years of agency experience preferred.

A requirement map for Job A is:

Calendar maintenanceBUL-04Put calendar work near the top.
English copyBUL-05Show captions and supervisor-review boundary.
SpreadsheetsSKL-07Name the actual functions used.
WordPress, preferredNoneMark GAP; do not add it to Skills.

A supported Job A excerpt is:

Maintained a weekly spreadsheet calendar for three social channels. [BUL-04]
Drafted English captions from approved product notes for supervisor review. [BUL-05]

Job B calls for a different emphasis:

Created a sample campaign plan and six Canva mock-ups as university coursework. [PRJ-03]

The same evidence supports different placement. The Job B excerpt does not become agency employment, and a preferred experience gap remains a gap.

Use Evidence IDs in the Draft

prompt to try5 lines
Tailor an excerpt for the supplied vacancy using only MASTER EVIDENCE.
First map requirements to an evidence ID or GAP.
Then propose at most two bullets, each with its supporting ID.
You may reorder or rephrase without changing ownership, dates, or meaning.
Do not add a skill or experience to fill a GAP.

IDs help you review; they do not make a false claim true. Remove the visible IDs only after checking the submission copy, and keep an annotated copy for yourself.

Hands-On Exercise

Run the prompt for Jobs A and B, or write their two excerpts manually. Then inspect this proposed Job A bullet:

Published weekly WordPress campaigns across three channels. [BUL-04]

Explain what the ID really supports and repair the bullet. Finally, name the files you would use for the two employers.

Check your work: BUL-04 supports calendar maintenance, not WordPress publishing. A valid repair is “Maintained a weekly spreadsheet calendar for three social channels.” Job B should emphasise the coursework plan and mock-ups while retaining the coursework label. The two filenames should make their intended vacancies distinguishable.

Changing the requirement from WordPress preferred to WordPress required changes your fit review, not your evidence. Do not silently add the tool; decide whether you can honestly meet the stated requirement.

Failure Cases to Diagnose

  • A GAP becomes a skill: Remove the unsupported claim and keep the gap visible.
  • Coursework becomes employment: Restore the project label and original scope.
  • The master gets overwritten: Recover from your saved copy or version history and separate future variants.
  • The wrong attachment is selected: Open the final attachment and match it to the intended vacancy.

For a real application, also check location, work authorisation, schedule, and other essential conditions. Resume wording cannot solve an eligibility mismatch.

Optional transfer: Apply the method to two live vacancies, export the requested file types, and record the exact attachments in your tracker. Research and submission time sit outside this lesson's short practice task.

A draft cites BUL-04 for WordPress publishing, but BUL-04 records calendar maintenance. What should you do?
