Building a Mock Interviewer With ChatGPT or Claude

Lesson 10 of 15

Is lesson ke baad tum

A useful mock interview makes you attempt an answer, exposes a specific evidence gap and gives you a truthful retry.

In this lesson

Set up a two-question practice interview, then turn one vague answer into a specific retry. Use the fictional pack below in a normal chat, or have a partner read the questions. You do not need a custom assistant or a real application.

Start With a Small Interview Pack

prompt to try10 lines
FICTIONAL VACANCY: Junior operations assistant
Requirements: maintain a task spreadsheet; flag delays; coordinate updates.

FICTIONAL CANDIDATE:
Four-person university event team. Owned the task sheet and vendor follow-up.
Two days before the event, one vendor had not confirmed delivery.
Marked the item at risk; requested a written delivery time; told the event lead
which setup task depended on it. The lead reassigned volunteers.
The vendor arrived before the scheduled setup ended.
No budget, savings, satisfaction score or exact delivery time is recorded.

The interviewer can test whether an answer agrees with this pack. It cannot independently prove the pack is true or know an employer's private questions. For personal practice, replace it with redacted facts you can defend; omit CNIC, contact details and confidential records.

Save this prompt with the pack:

prompt to try9 lines
Run a practice interview using only the supplied vacancy and candidate facts.
Ask one question at a time and wait:
1. Tell me about a deadline risk you handled.
2. How would you keep a task spreadsheet useful to the team?
Ask one targeted follow-up if my personal action or evidence is unclear.
Do not supply a model answer before I try.
After both questions, give feedback on evidence, relevance and action detail:
quote my answer, identify one gap, then give one retry instruction.
Flag claims absent from the pack. Do not add experience or predict hiring.

Worked Example

Practice question: “Tell me about a deadline risk you handled.”

First answer: “A vendor was late, so we communicated well and saved the event.”

The pack says delivery was unconfirmed, not late. “Saved the event” is also unsupported. A useful follow-up is: “What did you personally do when confirmation was missing?”

Retry: “Two days before our university event, a vendor had not confirmed delivery. I owned the task sheet, so I marked the dependency at risk, requested a written delivery time and told the event lead which setup task depended on it. The lead reassigned volunteers. The vendor arrived before setup ended.”

This answer separates the candidate's work from the lead's decision. Feedback should point to that distinction. “Excellent, 95/100” tells the learner little about what improved.

Hands-On Exercise

Spend about eight minutes on the two-question round. Answer as the fictional candidate, using only the pack. If working offline, use the displayed first question and then the spreadsheet question in the prompt.

Review your answers using these three checks:

CheckEvidence to look for
EvidenceEvery claimed event or result appears in the pack
RelevanceThe answer addresses the question and a vacancy requirement
Action detailThe candidate's action is separate from the lead's action

Rewrite the weaker answer once. For the spreadsheet question, you may propose a future method, such as recording owner, due date, dependency and status; do not claim the candidate already used fields the pack never mentions.

Now change one fact: the vendor arrived after setup ended. Predict which sentence must change, then revise the deadline answer. Do not keep the successful delivery ending.

Completion Rubric

Your notes should contain two attempted answers, one evidence-based feedback note and one retry. A sound changed-input answer reports the missed timing without inventing its impact or an excuse. The candidate's earlier actions remain the same.

In text practice, assess wording and structure. Speaking pace needs an actual spoken rehearsal; a model cannot hear pace from typed words. Optional voice mode has account usage limits. Claude currently documents voice on web, desktop and mobile; a local recording or partner works too.

Common Mistakes

  • All questions arrive together

Restate the one-question rule and answer only the first.

  • Feedback adds a result

Remove it and ask which supplied fact would support it.

  • A numerical score becomes a hiring forecast

Replace the forecast with a quoted strength and a specific retry.

  • A real application is uploaded unredacted

Prepare a separate practice copy before sharing it.
