Write a Clear LinkedIn Headline and About Section
Is lesson ke baad tum
Use the headline to identify your direction and the About section to show evidence. Keep project labels, skill levels, and untested claims honest.
In this lesson
Draft a headline and short About section that explain a candidate's target and evidence. Use the fictional brief below, or your prepared, redacted brief from Lesson 1.2. Publishing a profile is optional.
Give Each Field a Job
The headline identifies your current work or target direction and one or two relevant skills. The About section gives the evidence and motivation behind that description.
For someone entering a field, “Seeking junior analyst roles” makes the target clear without implying they already hold the job. A useful pattern is:
Current role or honest target | Relevant demonstrated skillsDo not fill the line with every tool you have heard of. Choose terms your work, project, or training can support, and keep its level clear.
For About, connect four ideas in short paragraphs: the work you want, evidence of what you have done, your current direction, and a suitable contact action. They need not be labelled on the public profile.
Worked Example
Fictional brief: Areeba completed a BBA and a three-month marketing internship in Lahore. She maintained weekly content calendars using Google Sheets and prepared a final-year survey report. She wants junior digital-marketing roles in Lahore. She has no measured campaign results or email-campaign experience. Her preferred contact route is a LinkedIn message.
An illustrative bad headline is:
Digital Marketing Expert | Scaling Brands With High-Performing Email Campaigns
“Expert,” brand growth, and email campaigns are unsupported. A clearer version is:
Seeking Junior Digital Marketing Roles | Content Planning and Google Sheets
A supported About draft is:
I am a BBA graduate seeking junior digital-marketing work in Lahore.
During a three-month internship, I maintained weekly content calendars using Google Sheets. I also prepared a survey report for my final-year university project.
I would like to contribute to a team that plans and reviews content carefully. Please message me on LinkedIn about relevant junior opportunities.
The internship and university project stay separate. An expression of interest is presented as a direction, not a past achievement. The draft does not invent remote availability, industry expertise, or business results.
Hands-On Exercise
Use this new fictional brief:
Candidate: Computer-science student in Karachi.
Project: Built a React course project with a contact form.
Verified check: Tested the form with keyboard navigation.
Limit: Has not tested it with a screen reader.
Target: Front-end internship in Karachi.
Contact preference: LinkedIn message.Write one headline and a 60–100-word About draft. Use an assistant to propose wording if available, then map each factual sentence back to the brief.
Check your work: A headline such as “Seeking Front-End Internships | React Course Projects” is supported. The About section may describe the form and keyboard test, but it must not claim professional React employment or full accessibility compliance. A keyboard test alone does not establish that every accessibility requirement passes.
Include the screen-reader test as a next step if useful. A learner can be credible while showing what remains to be checked.
Review Before Publishing
Read the headline and About together with Experience, Projects, and Education. Dates, roles, and labels should agree. Keep private identity documents, addresses, references' details, and confidential client information out of the public draft and AI input.
A clear profile can help a reader understand you. It does not guarantee search placement, recruiter messages, or interviews. Use LinkedIn's current editing controls if you decide to publish; keep the checked text locally so the exercise does not depend on an account interface.
Failure Cases to Diagnose
The headline is only a slogan
Replace vague impact language with an honest target and relevant evidence.
A project becomes employment
Restore the coursework or personal-project label.
One test becomes a broad guarantee
Name exactly what you tested and what remains untested.
