Salary Negotiation Scripts for the Pakistani and Remote Market

Lesson 12 of 15

Is lesson ke baad tum

Support a negotiation request with comparable evidence and keep unknown terms visible until the written offer resolves them.

In this lesson

Practise a clear counter-offer using supplied fictional evidence. You will separate a supported request from missing information. The figures below are teaching examples, not Pakistani salary estimates or recommended pay.

Worked Example

A fictional junior analyst is considering an onsite Lahore employee offer of PKR 90,000 monthly base. The job includes maintaining dashboards and weekly reporting. The candidate has two university projects demonstrating those tasks, with no paid analyst experience.

These are fictional records checked on the same example date:

RecordScope and termsPublished monthly baseUse
ALahore junior analyst, employee, dashboards/reportingPKR 90,000–110,000Comparable
BLahore junior analyst, employee, dashboards/reportingPKR 95,000–115,000Comparable
CRemote senior analyst, contractor, team leadershipUSD 2,000Different seniority and terms
DLahore junior analyst, employeeNot disclosedAsk; do not estimate

The overlap of A and B is PKR 95,000–110,000. That is a description of these two records, not proof of the market rate. A request for PKR 100,000 fits both examples, but the employer may decline.

Thank you for the offer. I’m interested in the analyst role. My two university projects include dashboards and weekly reporting. The two comparable local employee roles in my notes have published monthly base ranges that include PKR 100,000. Is there flexibility to move the base to that amount?

The script states the setting of the evidence accurately. It does not call university work employment or use the senior contractor record to justify a junior employee request.

Separate Three Numbers

Your private floor is what you can accept given your needs and alternatives. An evidence range describes comparable records. An anchor is the request you choose to discuss. These numbers serve different purposes; a private need does not establish a market rate.

For real research, keep each source URL, date, duties, seniority, location, currency, pay period and employee/contractor status. Keep undisclosed salary blank. AI can group those records, but should not invent missing pay or turn two advertisements into a salary survey.

Compare the Terms Before Accepting

A larger headline amount can still leave important questions unanswered. Compare guaranteed cash in the same currency and period, then list working hours, leave, equipment, insurance, fees, payment timing, notice and applicable deductions. A promised review is not a guaranteed raise.

For a remote contract, confirm classification and payment arrangements in the written offer. Do not call a currency conversion “take-home pay” when fees or tax are unknown. For your actual circumstances, use current provider/bank information and qualified advice with FBR and SBP guidance; this lesson does not calculate personal taxes or determine legal status.

Useful wording for the next stage:

  • Need the employer's range: “Could you share the approved base range and employment type for this role?”
  • Need review time: “May I review the complete written terms and respond by Thursday at 3 pm PKT?”
  • Base is fixed: “Could we document the review date and criteria? I understand a review does not guarantee an increase.”
  • Ready to accept: State the role, agreed base and written terms only after unresolved questions have been answered.

Never invent another offer to strengthen a counter.

Hands-On Exercise

Use this changed fictional offer: the employer keeps PKR 90,000 base and says, “We usually review pay after six months.” Benefits and review criteria remain unspecified.

Write a three-sentence reply that:

  1. Acknowledges the base is fixed.
  2. Asks for the missing review details and benefits in writing.
  3. Requests a specific time to review the complete offer.

Then annotate the evidence table: exclude C from the local junior comparison and leave D undisclosed. Do not send the practice reply.

Completion Rubric

A sound reply asks when the review occurs, what criteria apply and who decides; it asks about benefits without assuming them. It does not translate “usually review” into a guaranteed increase.

For example: “Thank you for clarifying that the base is fixed. Could you include the benefits and the proposed review date, criteria and decision-maker in the written offer? May I review those terms and respond by Thursday at 3 pm PKT?”

For a real decision, compare the complete offer with your private floor. You can accept or decline; completing this exercise does not require either choice.
