Building a Content Style Guide for Consistency
Is lesson ke baad tum
Test a guide on an actual draft, replace ambiguous rules with observable choices and keep changing product facts tied to their sources.
In this lesson
A style guide should help someone make a decision without guessing what “friendly” or “clean” means. You will repair a small guide by testing it against one draft.
Use This Fictional Guide
Seedhi Dukaan — version 1.0 — reviewed 5 October 2026
Owner and approver: store owner
Audience: Karachi renters comparing shelf-storage boxes.
Voice: calm instructions; explain what to measure; do not shame a messy home.
Language: for Roman-Urdu lines use aap; keep dimensions and units clear; no forced language ratio.
Evidence: use the dated approved product sheet; omit unknown prices and stock.
Visual: navy #17324D, cream #FFF8E7, one sans-serif font, small margins.
CTA: ask the reader to compare shelf and box dimensions.
Avoid: miracle claims, fake countdowns and private customer screenshots.Approved sample product sheet P1, checked 5 October 2026: box width 30 cm, depth 20 cm, height 15 cm. Price and availability unknown. The card will be 1080 × 1080 pixels.
Worked Example
A helper returns:
“Transform every Karachi home. Our miracle box is only PKR 999. Buy before tonight!”
Three concrete conflicts are enough to stop it: the universal claim violates the voice/evidence rules, the price has no source, and the countdown is prohibited. “Make it warmer” would not explain the repair.
A grounded replacement is:
“Measure your shelf before choosing a box. This sample is 30 cm wide, 20 cm deep and 15 cm high. Compare all three measurements with your available space.”
It uses P1 and the specified action. It does not need an invented sale.
Hands-On Exercise
The helper also asks, “How small are the margins?” Replace that vague rule with a 72-pixel internal margin for this 1080-pixel square card. This is a design choice for the sample, not a platform requirement.
Write version 1.1 with the changed rule, owner and review date. Add one preferred/rejected pair for the CTA. Then review this second draft:
Copy: Measure the shelf width. This box is 30 cm wide, 20 cm deep and 15 cm high.
CTA: Compare width, depth and height before choosing.
Visual: Approved colours, one sans-serif, 24-pixel margins.
Source: P1.Record what passes, what fails and the smallest repair. You may ask AI for a fresh draft from the guide and P1, or perform this supplied review manually. If no independent helper used the guide, label the result a self-review.
Finally P2 replaces P1: width changes to 32 cm; depth and height stay unchanged. State which assets need another check.
Completion Rubric
The second draft's source values and CTA match P1. Its 24-pixel margins violate version 1.1; move the content inside 72-pixel margins and recheck line wraps. Improve the opening to ask for all three shelf measurements, matching the CTA.
A preferred CTA says “Compare width, depth and height.” A rejected one says “Buy before tonight”; it adds unsupported urgency and skips the comparison.
When P2 arrives, update the width to 32 cm and source reference to P2, then recheck affected drafts and exports before approval. A style guide controls how facts are presented; it does not make an old product value current forever.
